If you haven’t watched the video yet, go grab a towel for your drool (you’re going to need it) and check it out.
Taking Lewis over two-and-a-half years to complete (1.5 years of planning, 1 year of actual production), this lightsaber project isn’t your ordinary recreation. In what may be one of the most faithful reproductions ever. This faux weapon contains a power crystal that controls light and sound which Star Wars geeks will understand is a tip of the hat to the power crystals used in the legendary blades wielded in the movies and books.
Of course, the saber is not a real weapon, but you can almost imagine epic battles against the Empire’s evil forces when you see it in action. Lewis’ masterpiece is what is called a “reveal” replica; the blade itself is removable so that the hilt can be shown in both available modes. Powering the lighting scheme of the device are 84 LED lights that illuminate the blade evenly from top to bottom, which is something that other replicas lack. The circuit board that drives the whole project also has the ability to sense ambient sounds and light the blade in time to what it “hears.” Lewis has a cool video of his creation lighting up in time to AC/DC’s Back in Black.
There’s no word on exactly how much this replica cost Lewis to create, but the final product would be priceless to any avid Star Wars collector. It’s a sure bet, however, that Lewis won’t be parting this beauty anytime soon. Would you?
